According to an interview with the “Conversations With Friends” star published by Elle last week, Joe Alwyn is aware that there is a blank area in terms of details about his relationship with singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, and it’s likely to stay that way.
Although, to be fair to Swifties, the “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” singer has hinted at quite a few juicy facts from her former relationships in her famed breakup ballads, Alwyn told the magazine that he’s confused by the public’s hunger for more tea about their private lives.
“It’s more of a reaction to something else than [wanting to be] guarded and secretive,” Alwyn explained. “We live in an increasingly intrusive culture….” Something will be taken from you the more you give – and really, even if you don’t give it.”
Swift appears to share the couple’s desire to keep their personal lives private.
This could be because, as she stated to Paul McCartney in a Rolling Stone interview in 2020, her relationship with Alwyn allows her to feel like an ordinary, non-famous person in love.
“I believe that through knowing him and being in the relationship I am now in, I have taken decisions that have made my life feel more real and less like a plot to be commented on,” she stated.
“Whether it’s picking where to live, who to hang out with, or when not to take a picture, it’s really just trying to find bits of normalcy,” she continued.
Swift’s Carly Simon-like penchant to write highly private lyrics about former high-profile romances is one of the reasons her fans are so immersed in her love life. Swift is tight-lipped about which of her prior lovers inspired each song, but she does make strong suggestions, much to the delight (or chagrin) of her fans.
