Natalie Portman explained to Elle UK in February 2010 that there is one reason she hasn’t shown her intimate bits when many Hollywood stars have done so for their jobs.
After receiving a flood of “strange” messages from men following her Lolita-like performance in Leon when she was 12, she claimed she managed to escape being a “s-x object.”
After Leon, “I deliberately cultivated the good-girl image,” she told the magazine.
“The entire Lolita situation generated a great deal of debate. My parents were quite careful, but I still received a lot of strange letters. It was very distressing. I turned away because I didn’t want to be perceived as a s-x object.
I don’t want to do anything that will be captured on a screen grab and posted on a Adult website, but I’m certainly not a prude about s-x or nudity.
The actress has displayed flesh for roles in “Closer” and the short film “Hotel Chevalier,” but she wants to be viewed as an actress in “Black Swan,” which features a passionate s-x scene with co-star Mila Kunis, not a s-x symbol.
“You look at Meryl Streep, who is so fantastically, freakishly lovely, and in some ways it’s just odd that she was never a s-x symbol,” continued Portman, 28. However, she was always the focus, so it is no longer relevant that she is ageing.
“In contrast, you see actresses who promoted their bodies, and while they may be good, over time they just lose it because that kind of thing doesn’t last,” the author said.
Portman’s first overtly Jewish role was that of a Hasidic bride in New York in the film I Love You.
On the other hand, she detests the genre of Holocaust-related movies.
She continued, saying, “I’ve always tried to avoid playing Jews.” I receive over 20 Holocaust scripts each month, but I detest the genre. New York, I Love You was the first thing that came my way, and it really attracted me.
The comedy “Your Highness,” a mediaeval marijuana romp that will be published in October, is another project Natalie is currently working on.
It wasn’t that I didn’t want to do comedy, Natalie remarked. I would only ever be offered girlfriend roles in guy comedies where the woman needs a job in fashion to afford nice clothes and her ultimate goal is marriage. Finding comical personalities is what interests me more.
