The British Navy Wasn’t Scarlet in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’
The redcoats are on their way… a few decades early! Although the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie takes place in the 1720s, the renowned red coats were not issued to the British troops until 1747. The men continued to wear red, but it was a darker, more affordable tint known as madder red prior to that date. Officers and sergeants were the only ones who wore red coats.
