Sarah Jessica Parker struggled to define her boundaries as an actress before becoming well-known for playing Carrie Bradshaw on S*x and the City.
The Divorce actress has infamously refused to perform n*de sequences for the camera during her decades-long career. She even implemented a no-nudity contract clause for the six seasons of the popular HBO series, but it wasn’t always simple to stand by her principles.
In this week’s People cover story, the SATC alum discussed the pervasive s*xual misbehaviour and extreme demands of being a woman working in the film industry, saying: “I don’t know if I had confidence or if I was getting advice from people. There was a lot of pressure on me to strip off my clothes.
In talking about one especially awkward situation early in her career, Parker gave credit to her agent and a random person for giving her the confidence to speak up for herself. She recalled that her agency had given a car and a plane ticket to the movie set and had advised her to refuse any requests to do anything she didn’t feel comfortable doing.
She continued, “I know how lucky I am that there was someone—in this case, a man—who stepped in given what’s occurring today and the stories told from that particular period.
That does not mean that every circumstance was simple, as she was seen “crying” in another incident. Sarah Jessica “is going to be n*de tomorrow,” they added, and I responded, “I’m not going to be n*de,” she recalled.
The designer explains that she just never “dug” it personally, but she insisted that her decision to remain clothed does not prevent her from supporting women who do choose to disrobe on camera. She emphasises, “It’s not a value issue, or like I’m condemning anyone else. She told the outlet, “I think it’s terrific when women feel comfortable doing that, and that’s their choice.
The producer spoke candidly about her longstanding opposition to nudity on television in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter back in 2016.
She admitted, “I’ve always had one, and it’s about nothing. “Some people are legendary and have a litany of benefits. White candles must be present in their chamber. I don’t have a list that is so illogical.
